Rovereto: just a few kilometres from Lake Garda,
is a famous town in Vallagarina which lies at the foot of the Castel
Veneto with the Historic War Museum. It is renowned for its enormous
Campana della Pace (Bell of Peace), on the hillside of Miravalle
that every evening rings 100 times in memory of all those who died
in war and MART (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art), planned
by the architect Mario Botta, with temporary and permanent exhibitions
In the historical town centre, you can still see the very evident
"Serenissima" imprint of the Venetians. Leading northwards
from Piazza Rosmini, heart of the modern part of Rovereto, is Corso
Bettini, a street where you will find the most beautiful eighteenth
century buildings of the town. One in particular is THEATRE ZANDONAI,
the oldest in the entire region, erected more than 200 years ago.
In September, it is home to two important international events:
“Oriente-Occidente” a festival of theatre and dance,
and “Mozart a Rovereto”, dedicated to the musical genius
from Salzburg, who stayed here to perform his first Italian concert.
Amongst the most famous people from Rovereto there are Antonio Rosmini,
Zandonai, and Fortunato Depero.
